2017-2018 Budget Approved

The annual City Budget was approved by the City Council last night.

A few of the big ticket items were a new plow truck with all wheel drive.

A 200 hour part-time increase for the recreation program.  This is in hopes of expanding and involving more of the youngsters in the community.

The Council has authorized the addition of one more full time police officer due to the increase work load.  In the month of May, there were 791 calls for service, that is just over 26 calls a day on average.  Due to this addition, this will impact our budget in the amount of $114,860.  That is all the costs in order to put that officer on the street.  At the end of the day, this will be a negative effect to the budget in the amount of $79,000.  There were two choices, One; pay for this out of our reserve (which is close to $700,000 aka the rainy day fund) or Two; increase property taxes by the $79,000.  The Council approved the increase in property tax.  This will be an approximate increase of 12%.  So you are aware, the City only collects $632,945.00 in property tax and the police budget will be over $1,200,000.  The single most expensive item in the City.
